The
Costa Concordia, a modern day cruise liner owned by Costa Cruises struck rocks
off the shore of Isola del Giglio. The ship began drifting out to sea. Due to a
stroke of luck, the ship was blown inland, and came to rest on rocks not very
far from shore. Due to this, many lives were saved. The captain, who is
currently standing against charges of 32 accounts of manslaughter as he had
“fallen” into a lifeboat as the ship capsized. The world’s largest salvage
operation is currently underway as two salvage companies try to refloat the
behemoth and sail her to her final destination, a
scrapyard.
