The Wilhelm Gustloff, a WWII Refugee Ship, was torpedoed 3 times
by Soviet submarine S-13. It was carrying approximately 10,582 German refugees fleeing the Soviet advance, where about 5,000 of the souls on board were children. The ship plunged into the icy waters of the Baltic Sea
in about 40 minutes. An estimated 9,343 men, women, and children were lost when the former cruise
liner went down, and it is considered one of the most tragic naval disasters of
its time. Its death toll exceeded the RMS Titanic by around 7
times. This was one of the worst naval disasters ever recorded, but since it was considered a "war loss", it was forgotten.
